Land documents not genuine, says committee

Murang'a; Kenya: Most of the land ownership documents issued to plot owners in the controversial Kiharu Estate in Murang'a town are not genuine, a report indicates.

The report tabled at the county assembly revealed that most of the lease certificates held by individuals are not genuine. This came after a committee failed to trace them at the Ministry of Lands headquarters in Nairobi.

The report by Lands, Housing and Physical Planning committee expressed fears that many of the plots were allocated in a dubious manner as they had no records to support their existence at the ministry.

The committee, chaired by Gitugi Ward Representative Duncan Njuguna (Gitugi) has called for a comprehensive re-planning of the estate to help resolve many land disputes like access to some plots.
