Nyatike MP Edic Omondi Anyanga grilled over President Uhuru Kenyatta heckling

Migori, Kenya: Even as President Uhuru Kenyatta pardoned those who were behind his heckling in Migori, another MP from the region was summoned to record a statement with the police on Thursday.

Nyatike MP Edick Anyanga recorded a statement at Migori County police headquarters over the pandemonium that rocked President Kenyatta's tour in the county.

Anyanga became the fifth politician to be grilled by police after Siaya Senator James Orengo, Suna East MP Junet Mohammed, Uriri politician Omondi Gwonyo and former Migori mayor Ochieng' Ogejjo who also had given the police their side of the story over the incident that saw objects hurled towards the presidential dais two weeks ago.

Anyanga was escorted by Gem MP who is also leader of minority party in Parliament Jakoyo Midiwo, James Orengo and Kisumu County Assembly's leader of majority party Samuel Ong'ou.

The MP jetted in at around 2pm, shortly after the President ordered all the youth who were being held over the heckling to be released.

Mr Kenyatta had given the order at Statehouse while addressing the delegation from the county who went to apologize to him over the incident.

"I have come here so that I can clear my name from any wrong doing that has been alleged on me," said Anyanga as he entered the police station for grilling.

After staying at the police station for over two hours, the three politicians then addressed a gathering at Posta grounds in Migori Town where they joined hands to condemn the acts of hooliganism that happened in the presence of the president.

"The presidency is a symbol of national unity and Mr Kenyatta is very free to tour all parts of the country including Migori County. What happened was unfortunate and I could not be involved in any ways possible," Anyanga said.

Anyanga, Midiwo and Orengo all called on governor Obado to organize a joint county leaders meeting to chart lasting strategies for peace and development.

They termed the governor's move to sponsor a delegation to Statehouse to offer an apology as an act of cowardice.

"Obado as the head of Migori County should stop sidelining elected leaders in his plans and he should have held a consultative meeting with all elected leaders before rushing to State House," Midiwo said.

"I can confidently say that Obado is a lone ranger in his leadership style and has chosen to work alone in issues cutting across the entire leadership fraternity," he added.

They all urged Obado to address the plight of boda boda operators in Migori town whom he said have been sidelined by his administration.

"As the governor he promised to offer the riders assistance and when they went to seek the aid, his people attacked them, a move which has created unnecessary tension in Migori town," accused Anyanga.

Midiwo and Orengo said it was unfortunate that the president was caught between a flare up when Obado was heckled and asked all leaders in Nyanza to involve all leaders in such state events.

"Uhuru as the head of state and should not come to a county for just a few individuals suffering from sycophancy but instead  reach out to all leaders instead of using unpopular leaders who are out to push for their own agenda," Midiwo said.
