Police nab two with six pieces of ivory worth Sh2 million in Kinangop

Police in Njabini, Kinangop have nabbed two suspected poachers with six pieces of ivory valued at over Sh2 million during a dramatic chase along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

The officers stopped the vehicle at a roadblock near Fly-Over trading centre along the busy highway at a round 4am and confiscated the items.

A source who declined to be named said police and Kenya Wildlife Service  officers had received a tip-off from members of the public over the illegal cargo.

"The suspects were flagged down along the highway but failed to stop, and a chase ensued. They were finally arrested at the police road block following communication between the officers," said the source.

Kinangop OCPD Chome Yawa said the duo were being held at Magumu police post.

"The suspects were heading to Nairobi from Nakuru before our officers moved in and arrested them with their loot. We are yet to identify the source of the ivory, but they will be charged in court with various offences," said Mr Yawa.
