Villagers come to rescue of man sexually assaulted a year ago

Residents of Wamagana in Tetu sub-county, Nyeri, have come to the rescue of a sexually assaulted man, who has been bedridden for the last one year.

The man is said to have been assaulted by unknown people while he was on his way home.

The man (name withheld), was rescued after neighbours  raised alarm through the Nyumba Kumi initiative over his condition after his close relatives failed to take him to hospital.

The villagers said the man has been in and out of various hospitals in Nyeri County, claiming his family members have always sought to have him discharged before he could fully recover to avoid incurring a huge hospital bill.

The married man is said to have been abandoned by his wife when his health deteriorated, despite sharing the same house.

In his current condition, the man can hardly walk on his own without support; he is partially paralysed due to lack of exercise.

A health officer who sought anonymity said the man has adverse bed sores on his back resulting from spending a lot of time in bed lying in one position.

"He could have recovered long time if he had undergone the required treatment in time; there has been a lot of delay in assisting him," he said.
