MURANG’A COUNTY: An MP wants the law amended to ensure people found guilty of corruption are handed the death sentence.

Kiharu MP Irungu Kang’ata said he has written to National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi seeking to amend section 48 of the Anti Corruption and Economic Crimes Act to have those found guilty of graft sent to the gallows.

Speaking in his constituency, Kang’ata said individuals who corruptly obtained billions of shillings have undermined development.

“I want to insert a clause in section 48 that will provide that in the event one causes the Government to lose any sum of money beyond a billion shilling he or she should face the death penalty,” said Kang’ata, who is a lawyer.

Addressing a meeting at Gaturi village during a medical camp the legislator said corruption has undermined development for decades as funds are diverted to persons pursuing personal interests. He said he is committed to the fight against corruption to enable the Jubilee Government fulfil its election pledges.
