Former American heavyweight champion to visit Kenya

American former Professional boxer Michael Moore will be the special guest during the forthcoming ‘Making of a Champion’, Series Five professional boxing that will be staged at Kasarani Indoor Arena from November 5-6.

The three time heavyweight Champion, who competed from 1988 to 2008 and held the World Boxing Organization (WBO) lightweight title from 1988 to 1991, and won the WBO heavyweight title from 1992 to 1994.

Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC) chairman Hillary Alila said: “We are going to stage the Making of a Champion Series five Professional Boxing at Kasarani and the special guest will be the three-time Heavyweight champion, Michael Moore.”

Alila revealed that the event was organised in a bid to bring boxing back into the limelight.

“The event is being organised by KPBC in conjunction with top US boxing promotional firm ‘Bigger Than Life Promotion’ that has agreed to bring to Kenya a World Boxing Organization (WBO) title fight,” he added.

“Negotiations between KPBC, WBO and Bigger Than Life Promotions to bring the belt to Kenya for contest have already been finaliSed and on November 5 and 6 Kenyans will be able to watch a WBO title fight in the country,”

The Chairman said that boxers likely to be involved during the fight include Africa Boxing Union (ABU) title holder Daniel Wanyonyi and Police pugilist Michael Shaka Nyawade.

Bigger Than Life Entertainment, are a Las Vegas Based Promoters of Boxing.

“Ejay Mathews who is their CEO came personally to Kenya to organise for this,” said Jimmy Shigi the KPBC Public Relations Officer.

Shigi also revealed that the Weighing In and Press Conference is planned for November 4

Shigi added: “The commission is working with the Promoter and their local partner TKO Gym in preparation for the event, entertainment and media promoters are Homeboyz Entertainment and Capital FM.”
