Reign of Queen Bey: 5 artistes who orchestrated their downfall by beefing with Beyonce

Not only does every record she belts out rise to the top, her husband Jay Z is the producer who has grown hip-hop to what it is today. Hollywood sources have it that the Lemonade singer does not just subtly provoke topics that cause red necks to get all red faced, but she controls people’s careers as well.

The unspoken rule in the entertainment industry is not to be on her wrong side or publicly be seen to be against her. Musicians who were doing very well but whose carers suddenly went dead in the water are said to have crossed Sasha Fierce the wrong way. These ladies were the proverbial ‘it girls’ when it came to hits, just where are they now?

Ashanti

She was known to be the queen of the nineties and getting her to sing your track was a guarantee for your song to hit the chats with a platinum label on it. Now, she is only a distant memory. This all changed back in 2003 when the media started comparing her to Beyoncé.

An unhealthy competition started brewing between them. It was made worse, when in the spirit of competition, Ashanti stopped rappers from working with the Grammy Award winner. She managed to get Ja Rule on her corner but lost everything else. Henceforth, her platinum singles became more of gold, then silver, copper ...and then dust. It only took three years for Ashanti to get out of the game completely and for Beyoncé to soar higher.

Keri Hilson

Known to pen music that would fly off the charts, Keri Hilson’s star in a solo career was shining bright. Her 2009 hit Turnin’ Me On made the dream a reality. However, the victory was short-lived. This is because in typical black woman’s history, she had to get back at Beyoncé for releasing a song that they had worked on together.

She lashed out at Beyoncé in a remixed version of Turning me on calling her a mediocre artiste propagating that Jay Z’s wife’s biggest tracks were penned by her. I suppose the last statement on Beyoncé needing to sit down as her career was beginning to fade, came back to bite Keri. Thereafter, Keri’s career did fade and die.

Keyshia Cole

The voice this woman has is one to die for. But that is not enough in the Hollywood corridors. In 2013 she shared a stage with Beyoncé at the Super Bowl and was not impressed at Beyoncé’s gesture of inviting her DC musical pals on-stage for a mix.

Keyshia Cole went on a Twitter tirade discrediting the show as a whole, she was quoted saying, and “I think I was frightened to blink for a second. The Michelle sung and woke me up from my daze.” As if that was not enough, the Heaven Sent singer said Beyoncé always messes up the groove and is terrible and always will be. Well, that was enough for the singer’s career, to head into a point of no-return and was dropped by her label.

Ciara

She definitely has had good breaks in her life in the past three years. But the same cannot be said about her musical career. A feud that went too far because of ego caused Ciara’s career to plunge into the deep sea. The media’s comparison with Beyoncé got into Ciara’s head.

A response to the similarity between her video and Beyoncé’s, led her to call Beyoncé a copycat of her fashion who ran after Ciara’s sloppy seconds. Seven years later and Ciara probably regrets why she opened her mouth in the first place. 2009 was her last successful year. This was after the low sales of her third album that ended up being KFC’s gift voucher for every meal bought. Three albums later, no luck. But luckily her love life is soaring even after a public separation from baby daddy Future.

Joseline Hernandez

Miss Joseline had not had enough of fighting with her cast mates on Love n Hip Hop Atlanta and had to take the fight to Hollywood. She called Beyoncé an unprintable name, explaining that she needs to make room for the up and coming artistes. She was recorded on the reality show hauling insults at the Formation star. Discrediting Beyoncé, yet she has not made it past reality TV caused the Beyhive to pounce on her ruthlessly.

Her dirty laundry was hung out to dry on social media. From abortions to drug addictions. Nothing was too sensitive to touch. This did not only harm her growing music career but her status on the reality show and even the spin off has been cancelled. The Barbados stripper went back to the producers on her knees to be kept on the show even with lower pay. She is still in courts for brawling with cast members.
