Sergio Aguero confirms intention to leave Manchester City

The 27-year-old is tied up until 2019 but insists he has no intention of extending current deal and plans to rejoin his boyhood club Independiente

Sergio Aguero has snubbed Manchester City’s offer of a new contract and will leave when his current deal expires.

City had hoped to agree a one-year extension with star striker Aguero, whose existing arrangement at the Etihad Stadium expires in 2019.

Aguero is 50 goals short of Eric Brook's record goals tally of 178 and has recently revealed that he would like to eclipse that total.

But he has also has revealed he intends to leave in three years' time and return to his native Argentina to play for Independiente — the Buenos Aires club where he began his career.

Aguero, 27, said: “In the last few months a lot of things have been said about a new contract, but I didn’t pay any attention. It’s clear to me that when my contract ends, after the World Cup [Russia 2018], I’m going to Independiente.

“Here at the club they are great with me, they always told me that they were open if the chance of a transfer arises.

“But where am I going to go in Europe? No, when I go, when my contract ends, I’m going to Argentina to play for El Rojo — from Manchester, straight to Avellaneda.”

Despite confirming his departure date from City, Aguero said he is relishing the prospect of working with incoming Blues boss Pep Guardiola this summer.

Aguero also revealed he has quizzed Argentina team-mate Lionel Messi about what it was like working with former Barcelona boss Guardiola.

Sergio Aguero celebrates a goal for Manchester city

“It’s pretty crazy that four months out you already know that your manager is going to leave and you also know who his successor is, but that’s how it is for us,” Aguero told Independiente En La Uno.

“This year I haven’t talked about it with him [Messi], but when we were playing at the Copa America he was telling me about Guardiola.

“He told me how much he had learned with him and I asked him, ‘What did you learn, idiot, to kick the ball better?'"

Aguero added: "Hopefully we can win something so [Manuel] Pellegrini goes in the best way possible. And then we'll adapt to what Guardiola wants."
