Gor Mahia will play in Group ‘A’ during this year’s Cecafa Club championships in Tanzania.

The Kenyan champions are in the same group with Yanga of Tanzania, KMKM of Zanzibar, Telecom of Djibouti and Al Khartoum of Sudan.

Group ‘B’ has APR of Rwanda, Al Shandy of Sudan, LLB of Burundi and Heegan of Somali.

Group ‘C’ has Azam of Tanzania, Malakia of South Sudan, Adama of Ethiopia and KCCA of Uganda.
The tournament will be held from July 18 to August 2 in Dar es Saalam.

The draw was conducted on Tuesday in Tanzania.

Speaking during the ceremony, Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) Secretary General Nicholas Musonye requested all the member associations to honour their obligation by providing air tickets for their teams as they resolved during CECAFA Assembly in Cairo early this year.

“The teams are expected in Tanzania not later than July 16. CECAFA and TFF will take care of all other expenses related to the event, including full-board accommodation, local transport, prize money,” he said.

President Paul Kagame of Rwanda has already committed a prize of USD 60,000 (Sh4.5million).

The winners will pocket Sh2.7million, runners-up Sh1.8million and third-placed team Sh800,000.

Elsewhere, Gor Mahia forward Michael Olunga says he should not be compared to former Kenyan captain Dennis Oliech.

Olunga insists he is his own man and does not want to live in the shadow of anyone.

Olunga will be the main man when Harambee Stars take on Ethiopia in Saturday’s Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) match against Ethiopia.

The lanky forward has been in great form for both club and country and his four goal haul against Chemelil Sugar on Saturday.

“I am my own man and just trying to give my best on the pitch. It is great that the results have started to come.

Having said that, I am a different player and I don’t think it is fair for people to compare me with Oliech,” he added.

Harambee Stars drew 1-1 with Gor Mahia yesterday at Nyayo Stadium as a build up for their weekend match against Ethiopia where they need to score three goals to qualify to the second round.
