Avoid these foods for gorgeous skin

Do you find that you suffer from pimply breakouts, patchy or dry skin? The answer could be in your diet.

According to leading nutritionists, a poor diet over a long time can increase the production of toxins and inflammatory chemicals that could lead to acne and other skin conditions and accelerate the way your skin ages.

Cut back on these foods to help your skin look younger, healthier and bring back the radiance to your complexion.

1. Milk

Several studies have found that milk (regardless of the fat content) is associated with increased acne because of the high content of hormones found in milk. In fact, all dairy products except yoghurt have been shown to raise the risk for breakouts. If you’re acne prone, it is recommended that you reduce the milk products you consume.

According to leading nutritionists, the reason yoghurt does not increase pimples is because the fermentation process involved in yoghurt production eliminates about 80 per cent of naturally occurring growth hormones.

2. Processed sugars

Sugars found in candy, soft drinks and light chocolates can wreak havoc on your skin, causing everything from acne to visible signs of ageing and dull skin.

It is important to keep your blood sugar balanced as much as possible to maintain healthy skin. Quench your thirst with water, or natural fruit juice and get your sugar fix from a piece of fruit.

3. Fried foods

Potato chips, fried chicken and other fried foods have oxidised, saturated fats which is the worst kind of fat for your body and your skin. They are also believed to trap bacteria in your body and on your skin.

The result: clogged pores, dull skin and acne breakouts. Stick to the ‘good fats’ like omega-3 and six to promote healthy, gorgeous skin.

4. Processed carbohydrates

Processed carbohydrates like white bread, pasta and crisps generally tend to have a high glycemic index, increasing glucose and insulin in the body. This has been linked to an increase in acne, according to a recent Australian study.

Stick to whole grains such as whole wheat and oats which have antioxidants that have been found to have anti-inflammatory properties.

5. Alcohol

Alcohol has devastating effects on the skin as it tends to dehydrate the body, leaving little water to be used by the skin. Alcohol also contains high amounts of sugar, which is a no-no for healthy skin.

The toxin can leave your skin looking dull and patchy.
