Swimming

Ommy Dimpoz, Avril, H_art the band, P unit

10. Mamangu: Willy Paul With over hundred thousand views on YouTube and frequent media rotation, controversial gospel singer Willy Paul’s Mamangu video comfortably fits in top ten most popular songs. This highly dramatised video is a narration and prayer that Willy Paul dedicated to his ailing mother. It was directed by AJ.

9. Fimbo Ya Tatu - Dawa Ya Moto - Grandpa Government Grandpa Records’ latest anthem Fimbo Ya Tatu - Dawa Ya Moto, a party song with catchy instrumentals continues to enjoy good viewership since it was launched few weeks ago. The Fimbo Ya Tatu hit perfectly blends different music genres, switching from kapuka and hip-hop to Afro-pop and dancehall. The video was directed by Young Wallace who does a commendable job in controlling the light exposure in the video.

8. Hello Baby - Avril featuring Ommy Dimpoz This video is set in a luxurious hotel compound. Themed around romance, the two artistes, Avril and Ommy Dimpoz, bring out the character of love birds. The video starts off with a striking whirlwind romance images of Avril and Ommy Dimpoz fantasising about each other in separate scenes. This is then followed by scenes of the two ‘lovebirds’ dinning and boat-riding, these are shot using  a drone. The video is directed by Sync.

7. Huu Mwaka - Jaguar The flamboyant philanthropic singer Jaguar decided to shot Huu Mwaka in South Africa. The clarity and script of the video is simple yet compelling. The video is shot at different scenes; the continuously changing flashes of colour and the agility in the video spellbind you into never looking away. This video is directed by Godfather Productions.

6. Foundation - Papa Dennis featuring Daddy Owen This is an offshore-shoot from the Papa Dennis’ Foundation, in which he features Daddy Owen. Foundation is a gospel song recorded both in English and Lingala with a clear storyline. Despite it being a gospel song; the artistes made sure the video is also a feel-good song that can resonate to a larger crowd. The video is directed by Mr Moe Musa.

5. Drum - The Kansoul A rather sensual, feel-good video whose lyrical content and creation has nothing to do with the title of the song. From its initial scenes its clear where the focus of the video lays, the skimpily dressed model (rocking mini-skirts and bikinis) who seems to be trying too hard to appear cool and sexy. It was directed by X Antonio.

4. Paragasha - Anto Neosoul Anto Neosoul’s latest single Paragasha also stands out. The breath-taking oceanic views accord the video the right mood that resonates with the love theme in the song. The editing is simple but sharp; everything done is moderate from the special video effects, transition between the different scenes to costumes rocked by the characters.

3. Nikikutazama - H_Art the Band It is not only the bands’ demeanour that makes this video enthralling but also their dress code and outdoor location. However, the familiar characters and movement are repeated until it becomes boring. The four-minute video has a straight forward script that blends in perfectly with the artistes’ intense lyrical content.

2. Weka Weka - P-Unit Weka Weka is a club banger by former genge group, P-Unit. Weka Weka is a colourful video that exudes an impressing retro-vintage feel. The director’s - Enos Olik - twitchy editing and patterned visual effects turn the video into something watchable.

1. Ooh Lala Oui Oui- Victoria Kimani featuring Yvonne Darcq Ooh Lala Oui Oui clip is colourful and sexy at the same time. The opening scene is that of attractive singer Yvonne Darcq’s sexy dance moves; this is closely followed by scenes of Victoria Kimani flaunting her sexiness. The quality is amazing. The notion that striking, sexual appeal complemented with gorgeous, sensually dressed characters help to push a music video is evident here.
