Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal partys late into night following derby win

Louis van Gaal celebrated Manchester United's derby day demolition of City in style by visiting a five-star Chinese restaurant in the city centre.

The Red Devils manager was spotted at oriental eatery Wings alongside wife Truus and a number of friends.

Van Gaal, who was also snapped in a selfie alongside Manchester City women's players Toni Duggan and Isobel Christiansen, earlier joked that United's win had given him a free pass to enjoy himself.

"I can go to Mr Wings because when you win you can go," he said in a post-match press conference on Sunday.

"When you lose then the fans are saying: 'What is Mr Louis van Gaal doing? Losing and he goes to the best restaurant of Manchester'.

"But now I can go. I shall go, maybe. I don't know."

United skipper Wayne Rooney promoted Wings restaurant earlier in the season.

The Red Devils' No10 is a regular visitor and has held his last two birthday parties there.

Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Daley Blind also hit the town following United's win over City - their first in a Manchester derby in almost two-and-a-half years.

The Old Trafford club's last Premier League victory over their neighbours came courtesy of Robin van Persie's late free-kick at the Etihad in 2012 which sealed a 3-2 win.

After the game, Van Gaal said: "I was very pleased because the fans are pleased and we are playing for them. The fans have not always had a good time because started very bad. But still they were supporting, and now the results are coming back. It's great to be a supporter of Man United right now.

"It's three points! We are four points ahead of fourth in the table and I am very happy for the fans. I have seen what it means for them. They always support us when the results were not good."

Mata wrote in his blog this morning about how important the fans were: "As I write this I’m still full of adrenaline after our win in the derby. Beating your Manchester rival and, on top of that, being able to score in front of your crowd is a truly amazing feeling, especially because we stretch our good moment and we keep adding points.

"I may sound repetitive but once again I have to say that the best part is the incredible atmosphere that Old Trafford generates.

"I have to admit that it was arguably the game with the best atmosphere at home since I arrived to United, and I realised that already during the warm-up… It was a special game, we had had several consecutive defeats against City and both the fans and the players felt it was time to change that streak. It’s not easy to explain with words what you feel on the pitch, but the thrill of a comeback in a derby is something I will never forget."
