Gor Mahia Secretary General Chris Omondi has resigned after hardly one year in office.

Omondi (pictured inset) told fellow executive members in a Short Message Service (SMS) on Saturday that he could no longer continue serving in his position.

One of the executive members, Assistant Secretary General Ronald Ngala confirmed receiving the SMS from Omondi and said the club will soon meet to replace him.

“Omondi has told us he cannot continue serving in the same position at the moment. He has not cited any clear reasons for taking the decision and we will meet as an executive to decide the way forward,” he said.

The official could not immediately be reached but has been a frustrated man in the last few months.

Recently, when the team visited State House, he confided in this writer that he was considering resigning.

“It is difficult working with people you don’t share the same vision and dream with and if things continue this way, I will have no option but to quit,” he said then.

Being a civil servant Omondi may also have found it impossible to continue serving in his position.

Elsewhere, Thika United have dropped five players even as they denied any intention to release David Kingatua to join newly promoted side Posta Rangers.

Among those dropped are former Gor Mahia midfielder Moses Odhiambo, who joined the club mid last season but has struggled for play time.

A statement posted on the club website confirmed that they no longer needed the services of Odhiambo alongside “Edward Njung’e, Allan Owiyo, Michael Wanyika and Bernard Meki.

“The above mentioned players are the only ones free to engage with interested clubs, the rest of our players are not on sale and anyone contacting our players without our consent is doing so illegally.

The team has also renewed contracts with its key players and is planning to replace the five and we will make it public in due course,” said the club.

While unveiling their new players last week, Rangers said they are in talks with David Kingatua to join them but the statement from Thika puts doubt on such a move.

The statement further sought to assure fans that all is well especially after the departure of coach John Kamau to Rangers.
