Newly promoted Kabras RFC say they are not in the Kenya Cup to fill numbers but to compete for the ultimate title.

Speaking to 'FeverPitch' after their 13-3 loss to Kenya Commercial Bank, head coach Anthony Ogot said that despite being disappointed by the loss,  they were encouraged by how the team had fared in their first ever league game.

It was assumed that as a newly promoted team from the Nationwide league, Kabras would be given baptism of fire by last season's Kenya Cup runners up and  Impala Floodlit champions KCB as it happened to other Kenya Cup debutants Catholic University.

After Catholic University were thrashed 112-6 at the Nakuru Athletics Club, Kabras were not going to stand such a humiliation. Ogot was quick to explain that they have already set their targets for the season and the team will work hard to achieve them.

"We know that this is our first season and we want to be sure that we win at least five games this season and to keep improving from there," he said.

Kabras' next game will be against the defending champions Nakuru RFC at the Kakamega Show ground, which will be their first home game of the season.

Ogot has said despite having a relatively stronger squad, they know things will not be rosy for them and they will have to work hard in all their games.

Meanwhile, Kenya Harlequin coach Joel Ng'ang'a has said they had a slow start of the season during their 32-14 win over the weekend because they underestimated Kenyatta University's Blak Bald.

"I think the boys got into the pitch thinking that the game would be a bit easier, but this is the Kenya Cup and we were given a rude surprise," he said.

"But we eventually settled and started playing how we wanted to play and we got the points for it," he explained.

"We have noted that mistake and we are now preparing better for our next fixture, we know that the league can be punishing when you underestimate teams and we are preparing for all difficult fixture.
