Jose Mourinho has claimed that Barcelona misused Cesc Fabregas - a mistake he doesn't intend to make.

The Spanish midfielder enjoyed an eye-catching debut in a Chelsea shirt as he helped the Blues cruise past newly-promoted Burnley at Turf Moor.

Fabregas had a hand in all three goals in the 3-1 win, setting up Andre Schurrle with a delicious slide rule pass before whipping in the corner for Branislav Ivanovic's third.

And the dazzling manner of his new recruit's bow left Mourinho understandably purring.

"When the players are your first choice it is very difficult to make a mistake. Fabregas was our first choice for that position.

"I know clearly what the player is because we were so long in the same league.

"He moved to Spain also, so for the last 10 years we have been in the same league for six or seven. I know exactly what he will bring."

Former Real Madrid boss Mourinho was also quick to grasp the opportunity to take a shot at his former rivals suggesting they didn't get the best out of the midfield maestro in his three years at the Nou Camp.

"For Barça he was the fake nine, the number ten and winger but I know and he knows what is his best position so he is giving exactly what we need - quick thinking in midfield," he added.

"He brings people in the same direction. I am really happy."
