Was Embakasi man set up to 'sleep' with private detective's wife?

Ben, who is expecting his first born with his wife, was on September 28 at midday, ‘caught’ in the act with Odero’s wife, Jessy at their Tassia home in Eastlands, Nairobi.

A newly-married Embakasi man has narrated to The Nairobian how he was lured and set up in an embarrassing love triangle by Stephen Odero, a city-based private detective.

Ben, who is expecting his first born with his wife, was on September 28 at midday, ‘caught’ in the act with Odero’s wife, Jessy at their Tassia home in Eastlands, Nairobi.

“I left home at about midday, and Jessy, whom I have known since primary school, asked me to pass by her house and say hello. We had reunited through mutual friends a few weeks ago, and she told me she lived in Embakasi, where I also live with my family,” narrated Ben.

He claims he visited her and had no intentions of staying for long.

“Immediately I removed my shoes, Jessy took them and carried them to the corridor leading to the bedroom. I asked her where she was taking the shoes and before she could even answer, her husband walked in with two well-built men and started beating me,” says Ben.

He was allegedly beaten and the men forcefully removed his clothes, leaving him naked.

The commotion attracted neighbors who quickly called The Nairobian team to the scene.

“I sensed I was being set up because these men were asking for money, and when I told them I had no money, they decided to call the media and the police. As I was being beaten, I realised Jessy had disappeared from the house,” says Ben.

He admits it was wrong to have gone into the woman’s house, but says she is a childhood friend he had not seen in a long time.

“I didn’t do anything with her; these men found me fully clothed and removed my clothes while beating me. This is so embarrassing. It was a clear set up, and that’s why I even asked them to call my wife. As they beat me, they took my phone and asked for my M-Pesa pin, but I refused to give them. They took my ATM card and also asked for my PIN, and when I refused, they beat me up again. Had you guys not come here, these men would have hurt me and stolen from me,” says Ben.

When The Nairobian arrived at the scene, Ben’s wife had also just arrived, and she firmly stood in front of her husband, trying to stop the heavily built men from beating him.

“This is definitely a set up. He is a faithful man, and I am sure he didn’t come here to sleep with a married woman. Something is not adding up,” she said, noting that the police officers who came to the scene are from Buruburu Police Station, yet Embakasi Police Station is less than one kilometre away.

Ben has agreed to pay Odero and his goons Sh20,000.

“I am just paying because I shouldn’t have visited her in her husband’s house. I am glad my wife believed me,” says Ben.

On the other hand, an agitated Odero says he had left his house with ‘his boys’ to go collect some debt in Utawala since he is also a part-time debt collector.

“I forgot to pick some copies of bounced cheques and I decided to come back to the house and found the door locked. I knocked and they refused to open. Later, my wife opened the door looking disheveled and I immediately went to the bedroom and found the bed rumpled,” says Odero. He claims he then searched the bedroom and on opening the bathroom, found Ben, stark naked.

“It is then that my boys set on him. He is lucky, if I had my gun, I would have shot him. My wife jumped from the balcony and fled, leaving her phone. I have gone through her phone and found so many incriminating text messages from other men. I am going to divorce her, since it seems my wife has become public property,” says an angry Odero.

Odero had during the last elections attempted to run for an MCA seat but lost. “I am a well-known and respected man. This man here has come to destroy my marriage and this has caused me untold embarrassment. I have two children with this woman, and it’s so sad that our marriage has to end this way,” says Odero.

Ben was finally driven to Tassia Police Post where all parties involved were invited to come in, have a discussion and settle the case.

“In this situation, Ben hasn’t broken any law. There is no crime like being with someone’s wife. So to avoid further fights or disturbance of peace, we will just call them to a round table meeting and agree on the way forward,” said an officer from the police post who can’t be mentioned because only the OCPD is allowed to talk to the press.
