A clinical officer arrested in Vihiga over rape allegations

A clinical officer attached to Vihiga Hospital has been detained at Mbale Police Station for allegedly defiling a patient.

The head of the Gender-Based Violence Unit has been suspended pending investigations into the Wednesday incident.

The 15-year-old girl says she had sought treatment at the facility after she had been raped for three consecutive days at an unknown location in Kakamega County when she was raped by the medic.

According to the Form One student at a school in Sabatia Constituency, the doctor locked her in the examination room for more than two hours, where he asked her to help him put on a condom.

"Afterwards, he wrapped the condom in some cotton wool and hid it in the cupboard. When he got out of the room, he gave my mother a form and went away," she said.

Hospital medical superintendent Godfrey Koba confirmed that a used condom was found in the examination room, but was yet to be tested.

And Vihiga OCPD Alfred Angengo said the case was being investigated and the used condom sent to the government chemist. "The medic will be taken to court on Monday," said Angengo.
