Chelsea goals were scored by Pedro, Gary Cahil, Eden Hazard and N'golo Kante's first goal as a Chelsea player condemned Manchester United to a 4-0 defeat. Pedro scored one of the fastest EPL goals on the first minute of kickoff. It was a surprise for Mourinho as he watched helplessly players who let him down last season hammer his team terribly.

Efforts by Paul Pogba who created chances for his new club were put to waste all along as Zlatan remained idle upfront since no one provided him with the ball.

In an after match interview Mourinho said, “We made incredible defensive mistakes, individual defensive mistakes and you pay for that. The team were quite comfortable. We knew we would have space with our full backs the way they play. We could build from these positions. We had no problem at all. We had control of the game but the control is a bit dangerous because Chelsea has great players to play counter attack and they were just waiting for that”.

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata revealed that there was a “sense of pain and disappointment” after the Reds were smashed 4-0 at Chelsea. Jose Mourinho’s side, who frustrated Liverpool on Monday night, were humbled on his return to Stamford Bridge and the Blues raced into a 2-0 lead after just 20 minutes. Although David Luiz was lucky to stay on the pitch following a studs-high challenge on Marouane Fellaini, United never recovered.

The Reds went on to lose the game 4-0 in their biggest defeat for 17 years and Mata has revealed how stunned the dressing room was afterwards.

“There’s a sense of pain and disappointment obviously,” he said. “It’s a painful result. We came here with the mission of winning and having a good game and from the first minute we started very bad. I felt when we were close to score our first goal they scored third goal and that was key. We were close to their box trying to create something and they score the third goal.

“In the first half they started better than us and that was a key,” he said.

United turn their attention to the Manchester derby on Wednesday and Mata hopes the Reds can make amends after such a poor display.

“It was painful result but it’s just three points and obviously we are not in the best situation,” he added.

“We have difficult games this week and we have another very important game in three/four days so we need to be together and think about this game and learn from our mistakes.”

In the other match played on Sunday, October 23, Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton.

The saints took the lead in the 27th minute before Nigerian Kelechi Iheanacho equalized in the 55th minute.

The point catapulted Manchester City top of the league at the expense of Arsenal.
