University alumni want Moi Vice Chancellor, Prof Mibey and Education CS Prof Kaimenyi to quit over closure of School of Law

Alumni of Moi University's School of Law currently in the legal profession have expressed dismay over the Council for Legal Education's (CLE) move to close the law faculty.

Claiming there is a "systematic collapse" of the education sector in the country. They called for the resignation of Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi. They urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to sack Prof Kaimenyi if he fails to take the "honorable step" of resigning.

The alumni blamed Kaimenyi for what they called total failure in management of education. They accused CLE of adopting a reactive stand and as well called on its head to resign.

Law Society of Kenya Rift Valley Chairman Kipkoech Ngetich called for a total overhaul of the education sector as well as the resignation of Moi University Vice Chancellor Richard Mibey.

"Prof Kaimenyi has messed up the education sector starting from primary schools and now the legal education sector. It is time the President fired him. He cannot mismanage primary, secondary and now university," said Mr Ngetich.

He termed the move intending to close the law school, which has over 1,600 students, "saddening". Ngetich said Kaimenyi has committed leadership suicide and should take an early retirement. The lawyer said there is a conspiracy among the rich members of the legal sector to lock out poor lawyers from becoming legal officers.
