Kenya to host key livestock conference

NAIROBI, KENYA: All is set for the 6th All Africa Conference on Animal Agriculture which opens in Nairobi next week.

The meeting, which runs from October 27 to 30 is aimed at presenting new innovations in livestock production. The conference, which was held for the first time in Kenya in 1992, has also been hosted by South Africa, Ethiopia, Egypt and Tanzania.

Director of Livestock Production in the Ministry of Livestock Julius Kiptarus said the conference will bring together individuals, groups and organisations with an interest in animal production. "The conference will focus on new innovations emerging in livestock production and various scientists will be present to carry out research on different issues. All counties will be represented and we call upon farmers to attend," said Mr Kiptarus.

Addressing the Press in his office, Kiptarus said there will be exhibitors in the forum, adding they have invited livestock specialists from Australia and Europe. He said remarkable progress had been realised in the dairy sector, which has resulted in increased milk production over years.
