TSC summons teacher who ‘sexually abused 35 schoolgirls’

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has summoned Naivasha’s Kipkonyo Primary School headmaster who is alleged to have sexually abused 35 of his female students.

The teacher who has since been suspended is expected to face the commission’s disciplinary panel.

According to a reliable source, the teacher, who is in his mid 40s, will face the panel before the end of this month.

The source said that initial investigations had indicated that the teacher was implicated by the minors who accused him of touching and taking pictures of their private parts.

The teacher has reportedly denied the allegations.

It is claimed that irate parents stormed the school with the intent of lynching the head teacher after the matter became public.

Teachers in the school in Ndabibi area were forced to flee for their lives as the enraged parents charged. The shaken head teacher, who had been advised to stay away from the school, was forced to lock himself in his office and hide under the table as the parents bayed for his blood.

Armed police were forced to intervene as some of the abused students told harrowing tales about their experience with the teacher .

According to one of the students, over 35 girls in the school were abused by the teacher who would fondle their breasts and take pictures of their private parts.
The class six pupil said the teacher would call them into his office and take their pictures. He warned them of severe punishment if they disclosed what was going on.

“He has been touching our breasts, private parts and taking our pictures. We told our parents because we feared he would rape us,” said one of the girls.

Alice Ngala, a parent, said 35 students were molested by the teacher who has been in the school for six months. The school has close to 1,000 students.

“We were shocked to learn about this. We shall not allow the teacher back to this school. He is an animal,” said Ngala.

The sentiments were echoed by Naomi Nasimiyu, another parent, who wondered what the head teacher intended to do with the pictures.

“We are pained and shocked to learn that the teacher has been taking indecent pictures of our children and we shall not rest until we get justice,” she promised. Kiroket Mebarin, another parent, accused Ministry of Education officials for not acting yet they had been tipped off weeks earlier. He said that the teacher had a sordid past record and that they would paralyse learning at the institution until he was either arrested or ejected from the school.

Confirming the teacher’s suspension, Naivasha sub-county staffing officer, Winnie Strong, said investigations had been going on even before the parents stormed the school. She accused the teacher of provoking the situation because he had been advised to keep off the school during the investigations, but he ignored the directive. “We visited the school last week and questioned some of the students. We were preparing our report when the parents held the demonstration,” she said.

The education officer said learning had resumed at the school and that another head teacher will be posted to the institution.

This came as it emerged that the case has not been reported to police two days after the matter went public and oddly, the police themselves do not seem to have launched any investigations.

“The issue has not been reported to any police station, but we are ready to take action in case the minors present their case,” said a senior police officer who declined to be named.
