A Chinese TV star has died after refusing life-saving treatment for an aggressive cancer , so she could save her unborn child.

Television presenter, Qiu Yuanyan, of Zhengzhou in Henan province died las week, just 100 days after the birth of her son, Niannian.

The 26-year-old found out she was pregnant in March but when doctors examined her they found a late stage cancerous tumour that needed urgent medical treatment to stop it spreading through her body.

But in a desperate bid to protect her unborn baby she pulled the plug on her chemo treatment.

The cancer then ravaged her body and she was admitted to hospital in September, according to the South China Morning Post .

Fighting to save her child’s life doctors delivered her son by Caesarean section in September - when he was just seven months old and weighed only 3lbs.

Although doctors then raced to save the former chess game show host’s life by removing the tumour - the op came too late to save her and she died.

Speaking to the Zhengzhou Evening News her grief-stricken husband asked people to remember his wife for her selflessness and added: "I hope everyone can silently bless her and our child, and smile at life - just as Yuanyuan did."Readers commenting on the South China Morning Post website praised the TV presenter with one commenter saying that "this is the real spirit of great sacrifice.”

Other readers echoed the sentiments with one adding:” She certainly epitomises the opposite of narcissism."
