Movie Review: A lesson in Romance

Movie Buffs
A lesson in romance movie review

Career-driven mom, Megan Mills, is about to realise that money cannot buy happiness for her or her family. Even a multi-million dollar windfall from a company merger is not enough to make up for the time that she lost with her husband, Mike and her twin children, Sean and Zoe.

When Mike files for separation and leaves her to join Sean and Zoe in college, in pursuit of his long-delayed dream that he had put on hold for Megan, she realises that she must take drastic measures to bring her family back together. In order to save her marriage and reconnect with her children, she enrols alongside them as a college undergraduate.

Megan quickly discovers that rebuilding her family while surviving freshman year is going to take much more than just business prowess and school spirit. Despite her attempts to help her children adjust to college life, the kids are not pleased to have their mother as a classmate, constantly avoiding her. Megan only wants what is best for her family, but begins to question if she still has a part in it. With a tempting job offer awaiting her back at home, will Megan decide to drop out of campus life or does she have what it takes to graduate with family honours? Thumbs up

The movie gives lessons on family relations as that is its main focus. You are likely to enjoy Scott Grimes’ scenes as the exasperated husband heading back to college for himself and putting his wife in her place. The entire movie of him being an undergraduate, assimilating to college, giving his kids breathing room yet being there when they needed him, experiencing college life and dating is eye opening.

THUMBS DOWN

The title barely conveys the said message as it delves more on family relations rather than romantic entanglement. The singing prowess of most of the characters went to waste as Alllie Gonino happens to have amazing vocals and Kevin Covais is an American Idol contestant.

VERDICT

If you pick the movie for the sole purpose of finding romantic scenes, you will be deeply disappointed. It is however a decent movie to watch to reminisce on your college days and what it would have been like had you gone to the same school with your parents.
