Motoring: Honda ups Kenyan presence

NAIROBI: Honda Motors has established a new ‘Three S’ (sales of new cars in a showroom, service centre and spare parts store) dealership, boosting its presence in Kenya. Honda Kenya General Manager Ali Batheif said this marks their third year in the market as exclusive dealers for Honda, which is the largest engine manufacturer in the world and supports 25 million customers annually.

The local showroom will sell Honda’s best-selling hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs, with the cheapest model costing Sh1.6 million.

“These cars have being produced with systems that have the smallest environmental impact. The company targets reducing carbon dioxide emissions from its products by 30 per cent by the end of 2020,” said Mr Batheif.

He added that Honda Kenya will be expanding to Mombasa, Nakuru and Kisumu counties as part of its plans to set up shop in all major towns in the country.

Batheif said last year, the company’s sales crossed the 100-unit mark, surpassing its target. This year, the local dealership is looking at 25 per cent growth in a bid to grow its share of the new vehicle market.
