iPhone and iPod iOS 8 receives its 8th iteration

Nairobi, Kenya. The advanced mobile operating system that powers Apple’s iPad, iPhone and iPod, received its 8th iteration on September 17th, 2014. The new iOS 8 is a big change yet. Visually, it may be similar compared to iOS 7’s flat design, but the inner workings and tools have received a massive upgrade.

Everyday apps that ship with all Apple devices have been enhanced in great ways. Photos app has new search features, smart albums, making favourites, and powerful new editing tools. Messages allows  you add voice notes location, as well as photos and videos. The new Keyboard suggests contextually appropriate words to complete your sentences. Spotlight app now gives you suggestions from Wikipedia entries, places nearby, trending news, and more. The Notifications Centre has a widget support and new ways to respond to your messages and reminders. The Multitasking window has added your favourite contacts to help you communicate even easier. And a number of improvements have been added to your Safari to give you best browsing experience.

Cross-platform support has also been greatly enhanced as well. Family Sharing allows up to six people in your household to easily share each other’s purchases from iTunes, iBooks, and the App Store. iCloud Drive lets you work on any kind of file on any device including your Mac and PC. Continuity can let you start an email on your iPhone, seamlessly add pictures from your iPad and finish off on your Mac.

iOS 8’s elegant and intuitive interface extends to third-party apps that have been reworked to take advantage of over 4000 new APIs opened to developers. Touch ID, PhotoKit, Camera API, HealthKit, HomeKit and CloudKit are a few examples of the new capabilities given to developers. You will immediately notice and love the new extended sharing options, custom actions, third-party keyboards, widgets, document handling and much more.

For those who appreciate mobile gaming, iOS 8 has given developers the power to create high-performance battery efficient games. With technologies like SpriteKit, SceneKit and Metal, optimal performance can be achieved with the CPU and GPU working together. And to spur the next generation of iOS apps, a new programming language that’s as powerful as it is expressive and intuitive to use has been introduced; Swift.

iOS 8 is compatible with iPhone 4s, iPad 2, and iPod touch 5th-gen. The upgrade file is fairly large (1GB), and will require a stable internet connection either on Wi-Fi or through iTunes on your PC or Mac.

Elite Digital Solutions is offering to upgrade its customers’ devices at their Workshop for only 1,500/- (excl. VAT).
