Ruto's among 345 title deeds revoked by State

Suspended Cabinet minister William Ruto is among politicians and private companies whose land the Government has repossessed.

Lands Minister James Orengo yesterday said 345 title deeds issued illegally have been revoked.

"Necessary measures to prepare title deeds for the parcels of land are underway and once they are all ready, the Government will issue the titles back to the institutions," Orengo said during a news conference at his Ardhi House offices in Nairobi.

Others who have lost their land include Lamu West MP Fahim Twaha. Companies affected include Lima Limited, Somog Limited, Sote Flowers Limited, Hass Petrol Station and Leisure Lodge in Diani, Kwale.

Among the tiles recovered are five parcels of land belonging to the Kenya Wildlife Service in Lamu, and another five parcels belonging to the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute in Mombasa.

Also recovered are two parcels of land for the Jomo Kenyatta Public Beach in Mombasa and 19 parcels of land reserved for Kenya Civil Aviation Authority and Meteorological Department in Mombasa.

Other parcels of land recovered were reserved for Government houses in Kizingo, Buxton Gardens in Mombasa, Municipal Council of Mombasa houses, parking lots, security operation zones and a road reserved for the Kenya Ports Authority. In Nakuru, 28 parcels of land have been revoked. They include those reserved for Nakuru Municipality Water Treatment Plant and Moi Primary School. And 13 parcels of land reserved for Machakos Prison have also been recovered.

The Government has also recovered 13 parcels of land reserved for Kakamega County Council and 58 parcels of land registered under Kisii Municipality, which had been reserved for Gusii Community Centre.

In Kisumu 37 tiles reserved for the High Court and Municipal houses have also been recovered.

Others are 43 titles reserved for the Eldoret Town Hall, 11 titles reserved for the Ukunda Airstrip, 156 titles reserved for Woodley Estate, Dagoretti Estate, Kenya Institute of Administration and for Nairobi City Council Public Market.

The Government has further recovered 31 title deeds in Ngong that were reserved for Administration Offices, Bus Termini in Ngong Town and a Community Centre.

In Kitale five titles reserved for the Kenya National Library Services have been recovered while 14 others for land reserved for Kenya Agricultural Research Institute in Tigoni, Limuru, have also been recovered.

Orengo said the titles have been published in a gazette notice of November 26, 2010.
