Original local productions are set to benefit from Sh500 million funding by MultiChoice.
The news was announced during a one-day summit dubbed Investing in East Africa local content industries to spur economic growth.
With over 200 local producers, content developers and students in attendance, the half a billion shillings investment is set to benefit 14 original shows to be produced and broadcast in the year 2017-2018.
The event also featured two of Bollywood’s renowned and award-winning producers Neelima Bajpal and Shyamashis Bhattacharia, while other speakers at the event included Chris Foot the Chairman of the Kenya Film Commission; Dorothy Ghettub the CEO Spielworks Media and Mwaniki Mageria, CEO Riverwood among others.
The summit was organised in an effort to increase local production skills following a directive by the Communication Authority in 2014 to increase local content programming from 40 percent to 68 percent by 2018.
