Sergio Aguero faces ban– could miss derby match against United after elbowing Winston Reid

Sergio Aguero appears to elbow Winston Reid

Pep Guardiola fears losing Sergio Aguero for the Manchester derby because of an elbow on West Ham’s Winston Reid.

City could have leading scorer Sergio Aguero banned for the derby match against United next month if retrospective action is taken after he appeared to swing an arm at West Ham's Winston Reid, who had to go off after taking a blow to the throat.

"I did not see the incident," Guardiola told reporters and neither did West Ham's manager Slaven Bilic.

"Reid got a little injured so we took him off," Bilic said.

Aguero has previously been involved in controversy when he stamped on David Luiz during an FA Cup semi-final.

Amazingly, Aguero got off without any punishment for the incident, for which the Brazilian defender later revealed that he had never received an apology - despite Aguero doing so on Twitter.

"He committed a very dangerous tackle against me when I was at Chelsea.

"I always felt the tackle deserved a personal apology, but I like to forgive in life - for me there is no issue."

Aguero said of the incident, "It was an impulse reaction that shouldn’t have happened.”

Raheem Sterling starred, scoring twice, as City maintained their perfect start under Guardiola to go top of the Premier League to the delight of the Spaniard.

For his third league game in charge of City, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager again picked Willy Caballero in goal rather than Joe Hart, and the Argentine was not troubled for almost an hour until Antonio's unexpected intervention.
