ODM leaders boycotting IEBC demos to face unspecified action

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders and activists who boycott demonstrations against the electoral commission would face unspecified action.

A group of leaders from Nyanza are unhappy that many politicians, including MPs, have not showed solidarity with ODM leader Raila Odinga during demonstrations against IEBC in Nairobi.

Some of the party officials from Bondo say they are drafting proposals to be handed to Orange House and which include suggestions to make the demonstrations a compulsory exercise in Opposition strongholds.

The leaders say it would be prudent for all elected and grassroots party officials to join the street demonstrations to strengthen CORD's push for reforms at IEBC.

The leaders have threatened to bar leaders who do not participate in the demonstrations from engaging in future party activities.

Kisumu Senator Anyang' Nyong'o, a former ODM secretary general, Homa Bay MP Opondo Kaluma and other county ODM officials said yesterday it was important for every CORD member to participate in protests to push for removal of IEBC commissioners.
