Ford Kenya has promised to hold free and fair nominations for all elective seats ahead of the next General Election. Party leader Moses Wetang’ula said the party will not discriminate or intimidate candidates seeking nomination.

“Officials should subject aspirants to free and fair nominations to avoid mass exodus. This will ensure that those who are nominated are supported by those who will have lost,” he said.

Speaking at Kanduyi Red Cross hall yesterday when he met party officials and delegates, the Bungoma Senator urged those who will lose in the primaries to support the winners and remain in the party. The party Secretary General Eseli Simiyu called on officials to conduct fair nominations. “We do not want to see an outcry from other aspirants. All aspirants should be subjected to fair and free primaries,” said Dr Simiyu.

The Tongaren MP called on party officials to sell the party to win more supporters in the grassroots. Also present at the function were MPs Chris Wamalwa (Kiminini), Wafula Wamunyinyi (Kanduyi), James Lusweti (Kabuchai) and Patrick Wangamati (nominated).

Wetang’ula also called on party’s gubernatorial aspirants Wycliffe Wangamati and Stephen Mutoro to agree on one candidate to battle it out with Alfred Khang’ati of ODM and the incumbent Kenneth Lusaka of New Ford Kenya, among others. “We want the most seats and we will only achieve this if we are united,” he said. Earlier on, the senator had reached out to the teaching fraternity in Kisumu, and asked them to support his presidential ambition.

Meanwhile, Wetang’ula has urged teachers to back his presidential bid. “I believe I can make a better president than both (President) Uhuru and (his deputy) Ruto,” he told Bungoma secondary school heads meeting in Kisumu.

The Senate Minority Leader accused the ruling coalition of fueling corruption.
