2 Tuskys bosses charged with Sh1.6b theft

Two Tuskys Supermarket directors were charged with stealing Sh1.6 billion from the company.

Stephen Mukuha Kamau and George Gachwe Kamau denied the charges before Milimani Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo.

The court heard that the two stole Sh400 million on diverse dates between 2002 and 2012 at Tuskys Headquarters on Mombasa Road.

They were also charged in a different court with stealing another Sh279 million on similar dates and place.

The directors face several other counts of stealing money from the supermarket.

Through lawyer Saitabao Kanchory, the court heard that the complainant and the accused have been involved in a family tussle over the operation of the business.

"The complainant is a brother of the accused and they have been tussling over control of the business and the matter has been with the CID," said Mr Saitabao.

He added that due to the tussles, it would not be possible to prove whether the money had been stolen or not.

Saitabao said the matter had earlier been presented before Justice George Odunga, who directed the parties to settle it out of court.

Mr Ogembo released them on Sh1 million cash bail or a bond of Sh3 million plus one surety in a similar amount each. The matter will be mentioned on Wednesday and heard on July 12.
