Teacher shot dead during robbery in Bondo

A woman was shot dead during a robbery at Usigu Trading Centre. Witnesses say Colleta Amondi, a teacher at Wambasa Girls Secondary School, had alerted a business operator that his shop was being robbed and the owner in turn informed police.

“It is very unfortunate that the woman was told not to get out of the house after police officers had surrounded the area in an operation to flush out the robbers,” said a resident. Acting Bondo Deputy County Commissioner Samson Akatch said the woman was mistakenly shot by police at around 2am.

Mr Akatch said the body was taken to Bondo Sub-County Hospital mortuary, adding that investigations into the incident were ongoing. “We are calling upon the public to volunteer information,” said Mr Akatch. He urged all landlords to account for all their tenants.

“This could be an inside job and we are calling upon all the landlords and those employing farmhands to ensure that they know their backgrounds and that they have identity cards,” said the commissioner. Preliminary investigations indicate that the robbers escaped after the woman opened the door.
