Planned impeachment of Governor Evans Kidero has rekindled political rivalry in the Nairobi City County Assembly.
The private member motion sponsored by Karura county rep Kamau Thuo, has stirred the old wrangles between the majority Cord and minority Jubilee parties.
A number of Jubilee MCAs have threatened to send the governor home over the alleged Sh200 million bribery claims now under probe and a number of cases they are building up.
But a majority of Cord MCAs have distanced themselves from the move, saying they will fight to protect the governor.
“It is impeachment over what? Where is the evidence? We want them to table the evidence” insisted Majority Leader Elias Otieno.
However, the Jubilee Deputy Leader in the assembly, Chege Ngaruiya, said: “The county has done very little and if we start contests with him, we will never develop this city. It will be political suicide,” warned Ngaruiya. He noted that,
“We better leave him to Senate and the probe team. The system has proved that we can’t impeach governors however genuine the accusations are,” added Ngaruiya.
