Teachers union wants online membership confirmation deadline extended

A section of teacher unions have called on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to extend the deadline for union members’ online registration.
The Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (KUSNET) said that the February 28 deadline set by the teachers’ commission was insufficient and will lock out most of its members.
Through its Secretary General James Torome the union said that they support the move by TSC as it could streamline the unions by getting rid of multiple memberships of some teachers.
"The online confirmation of union members is a move towards the right direction but most of our members are deep in rural areas and could not access internet facilities with ease. We need an extension of another one month," said Torome.
He called on TSC to convene a meeting with teachers’ union heads before the lapse of the deadline to discuss the challenges in confirming membership online.
