I first came to Nairobi in December 2015. I really didn’t know what to expect from the city, but I imagined I would meet a Maasai, see a giraffe from the horizon and probably hear lions roaring from a distance.
Kenya is known for its wildlife, so you can imagine my expectations. I also had this thing in my mind that people here are very fast because of the country’s prowess in athletics. Clearly, it’s the same way people would expect a West Africa to be rich, just because we have oil and cocoa.
I didn’t mingle a lot with Nairobians, but the few I met were very polite, almost like Ghanaians. When you are used to neighbours like the loud Nigerians, then anything is possible. They are also very eager to not only learn but also help.
The traffic in Nairobi is quite similar to Nigeria’s, so that wasn’t strange, but I wasn’t expecting it to be as chilly as it was.
