Bandari stunned Gor Mahia 1-0 to win the Dstv Super Cup on Saturday at the Mbaraki Sports Club.

A 66th minute goal from Anthony Kimani is what Bandari needed to win the trophy and start football season on a positive move.

Gor Mahia's traveling fans left the stadium with their heads down after referee Raymond Onyango blew the final whistle to signal the end of the match.

Onyango had earlier send off Gor's Haron Shakava for a dangerous tackle on Dan Sserunkuma.

Last year's Player of the Year Michael Olunga and Meddie Kagere's absence was felt in the entire match as Jacob Keli who had taken over Olunga's vital role did not fit well, which saw him substituted by coach Frank Nuttal, who was back on the bench after claims he had been sacked.

Olunga left Gor Mahia last month to join Swedish side Djorgarden where he scored a goal on his debut as his side drew 2-2 with Romanian club Steaua Bucharest in a friendly match in Turkey.

In Saturdays’ match watched by thousands of fans who included Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Bandari struggled to find their stride in the opening minutes with Gor Mahia dominating proceedings.

Bandari's new signing Sserunkuma repeatedly harassed Gor Mahia's defence but could not get a break through.

Shaban Kenga could have shot the dockers ahead in the fifth minute but his shot went wide. Humphrey Okoti of Bandari was booked in the sixth minute for fouling George Odhiambo. Keli thought he had put Gor Mahia ahead in the ninth minute but his goal was ruled out for off side by assistant referee Caroline Kilel.

Nizigiyimana was outstanding at the back as he snuffed out any signs of danger to ensure Sserenkuma was kept at bay. Musa Mudde, Edwin Lavatsa and Sserenkuma worked well in attack giving their coach Twahir Muhiddin a combination he will be proud of this season.

It was also a morale boosting result for Bandari ahead of the Caf Cup confederation match against St Eloi Lupopo of DRC next week.

The first half ended with Bandari committing 11 fouls against Gor Mahia's six with the latter enjoying a 52 per cent possession against 48.

Bandari enjoyed the majority of ball possession in the second half but could not convert the possession into chance as Gor Mahia fought on with 10 men.

Kimani silenced the charged Gor Mahia fans after he scored from a tight angle when he placed the ball into the far left corner to beat custodian Boniface Oluoch in goal for the league champions.

Gor Mahia's Nizigiyima and Abouba Sibomana were booked as well as Duncan Otieno, Okoti, Sserenkuma and Edwin Lavatsa for Bandari.

Coach Nuttal in a post-match interview said it would be tough for the team to mirrow last year's performance. "The new signings played well and we hope for a better season," said Nuttal.

Muhiddin said his boys played short passes as per his instruction, which worked well. "The luck was on our side and we are happy to have won the match," said Muhiddin.
