Plan to construct Sh27 billion water treatment for Nairobi on

NAIROBI, KENYA: The Nairobi Water Company has announced plans to construct a Sh27B water treatment plant to meet the rising water demand around the capital city.
According to the company MD Engineer Phillip Gichuki, the plant will be constructed in Ndunyu Chege town in Murang'a County.
He noted that currently demand for water in the City was 740,000 cubic meters per day against a supply of 525,000 cubic meters.
"Our infrastructure cannot accommodate more water due to its size and hence the move to construct the treatment plant in 42 months," he said.
Gichuki said that the project would be funded by the World Bank and French Development Agency and implemented by the Athi Water Services Board.
He admitted that the current El Nino rains had caused damages on several structures but was quick to note that the company was prepared to handle the challenges.
Gichuki was speaking when he officially opened a one-week training on water treatment for the for the company staff at Sopa Lodge in Naivasha.
