Two night guards killed in robbery at Baptist Church, Thika Road, Nairobi

Unknown people hacked to death two night guards at the Baptist Church along Thika Road and escaped with an unknown amount of money and valuables. The guards were on duty when a gang raided early this morning and broke into the church opposite Safari Park Hotel. Police say they are yet to know what was stolen from the church in the Sunday night incident.

The two were bludgeoned by blunt objects and their bodies abandoned outside the church.

Bloodstains and brains were splattered at the scene of murder as a crowd milled there to have a glimpse of it.

Doors were broken into and cash and valuables stolen. Officials at the church said the offices of the senior pastor, accounts and secretary were broken into, ransacked and property stolen.

Police arrived at the scene long after the incident had happened and took the bodies to the mortuary. No arrest has been made so far.

Kasarani OCPD Robinson Mboloi said the gang seemed to know their way around while committing the offence.

“They used blunt objects to kill the two guards and we are yet to know details of the goods stolen and make arrests so far,” said Mboloi.

The incident has drawn the attention of the guards’ union officials who want police to take steps that will ensure their safety.

Kenya Private Security Workers Union boss Isaac Andabwa said they lose up to five guards weekly in the country to crime.

“Police are the ones charged with ensuring our safety and they must do that. We also want justice for the comrades who have been killed in line of duty,” he said.

Last Thursday, two guards were killed in a similar robbery in Eastleigh. No arrest has been made so far.
