Ridiculous! Arsenal to fly for just 14 minutes to play a league match

Arsenal's decision to fly to Norwich ahead of Sunday's fixture at Carrow Road has been slammed by environmental group, Plane Stupid.

According to PA Sport, the Gunners will fly from London Luton to Norwich International airport on Saturday night, a journey which takes just 14 minutes!

Arsene Wenger's side meet the Canaries in a 4:15pm kickoff on Sunday, having also travelled the 118 mile journey by plane back in 2012.

Their decision to do so again has been condemned by Plane Stupid, a network of groups hoping to limit short-haul plane travel.

Plane Stupid spokesperson Ella Gilbert told the London Evening Standard: “Having lived in Norwich and Finsbury Park, I can tell you that this is a distance that you can do in two hours by train, without fuelling climate change. This is ridiculous.

“I’m a life-long Gooner so I’m used to being occasionally embarrassed by my team, but I prefer them to wait until after kick-off before humiliating their supporters."

A journey from the club's Hertfordshire training ground would take just under two and a half hours by road, while a direct train from London Liverpool Street takes just under two hours also.

Back in 2012, Wenger defended the club's decision to travel to a match at Carrow Road in similar fashion, stating the club would have travelled by road, but for roadworks.
