Kisii, Kenya: Drama ensued at Kisii law courts as children welfare officers engaged a government prosecutor over what they said was a misleading charge sheet on a woman who is accused of battering two children.

Faith Heavens Okumali had been arrested onWednesday when she was taken to court.

She pleaded not guilty to the charges after she caused drama by telling the Presiding Principal Magistrate J.M Njoroge that she will take full responsibility of her actions.

The magistrate had to restrain her, first to take plea and follow the court procedures.

Faith is accused of two counts of cruelty to children contrary to section 127(I) (a) of Children Act of 2000.

The magistrate immediately ordered that she be released on a bond of Sh100, 000 having set the hearing date for January 13, 2016 and mention date on December 3, 2015.

However, the accused was brought back to court after the prosecutor, Vane Mochama, requested that the accused be detained in as police carry out more investigation.

"I believe that there are children involved in the matter and other offences are to be included in the charge sheet," said Miss Mochama.

Principal Magistrate Njoroge ordered that the accused be detained at the Kisii Central Police Station until Tuesday next week when court will give more directions on the matter.

In a turn of events, the accused’s sister who had been identified as Winnie, was taken to Kisii Police Station CID offices for interrogation after she failed to submit her Identification Card while entering Kisii Law courts.
