Kirinyaga leaders: Leave our daughter Waiguru alone

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru is a victim of political wars between the ruling coalition and the Opposition, Kirinyaga leaders have said.

Governor Joseph Ndathi, Senator Daniel Karaba and Woman Representative Winnie Njuguna, where the Cabinet secretary hails from, Monday claimed Ms Waiguru was being targeted for her "good performance in the Jubilee Government".

They claimed her critics wanted to tarnish the work achieved by the Devolution ministry for political capital in the coming elections.

"They (Opposition) have realised that a lot of work has been done by the ministry across the country and this would work positively for the Government and they now want to discredit this work," said Ndathi.

Addressing a press conference Monday, the leaders pleaded with President Uhuru Kenyatta not to bow to pressure to sack Waiguru and instead support her.

"We are telling them to leave our daughter alone. What she has achieved has not been achieved by some of these leaders who have been in Government for a long time," the leaders said.

In two separate press conferences held at the county headquarters in Kutus town, the leaders claimed the assault on Waiguru was aimed at the Head of State who is the appointing authority.

Residents through their spokesperson Juma Githinji, said: "We are not surprised that immediately our daughter initiated development in the Kibera slum, the move caused jitters within the CORD leadership as it felt challenged."
