Nairobi to spend Sh15 million for Evans Kidero’s office Internet

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero

Nairobi County is planning to spend Sh15 million to facilitate Internet connection in the governor and deputy governor’s offices.

This is according to the 2015-2016 budget estimates, which projects that by 2018, the county would have spent Sh50 million on Internet connections only for the two offices. This comes with an additional Sh7 million allocated for “undisclosed confidential expenditures” by the inspectorate.

At the expense of other developmental sectors that have been allocated less, 70 per cent of the total budget will be spent on recurrent expenditure. Only 30.4 per cent has been set aside for development projects. Of the estimated Sh30, 828,694,489 budget, the county is going to spend only Sh9.3 billion on development.

Most of these monies are to be spent on carrying out financial planning, managing human resource and running expenditure in the public service, county assembly and the governor’s office. In human resource management, Sh50 million is set to be used annually for gender mainstreaming training, through to 2018.

Only four per cent of the Sh2.9 billion allocated for financial and economic planning is going to be used on development, with Sh2.8 billion being used on recurrent expenditure.

Physical Planning, Lands and Housing will utilise Sh320 million of the Sh695 million budget for development.

The Health sector, which is in critical condition following the health workers’ strike, will spend only 25 per cent of its budget on development. This is expected to be shared among all the hospitals under the management of Nairobi County.
