Some Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leaders want President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration to seek partnerships and engagements that will improve social and economic activities in the country.

Speaking to The Standard separately, the Opposition leaders said the Government should enter into long-term pacts with the US administration for the greater good of the whole country and not just a few people cutting deals.

Mbooni MP Kisoi Munyao (Wiper) said the Government must look at where there is potential in growth of business, trade and good diplomatic relations with any of the development partners and not just one particular country.

"Kenyans must enter into long-term pacts with our development partners. We must be able to look at where our bread is buttered," said Mr Munyao.

The lawmaker said leaders must look beyond themselves if the country is to realise  tremendous economic growth.

Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo (ODM) lauded President Kenyatta's statement that Kenya is neither aligned to the East or West and that his administration seeks to align Kenya only to progress.

"The President made it clear that Kenya is neither aligned to the East or West but to progress. That should form the contractual engagements Kenya under Uhuru seeks to get into," said Mr Gumbo.

Wiper Secretary General and Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar however charged that the partnership should be about value for the Kenyan people's money.

He said all the processes must be transparent.

"Shrouding the undertakings in secrecy or opaqueness evokes the view of corruption and under-dealings which have occasioned losses for the Kenyan people," said Mr Omar.
