An ugly debate ensued on social media after it was announced that deejays need to pay to play music. This is a fight that has been waiting happen.

Truth be told, disc jockeys are making millions from an art that artistes have heavily invested in. Trending via the #PayToPlay hashtag, various Kenyans gave their opinion with many suggesting that deejays should pay the required fee as they are currently earning from musical creatives.

Personally, I believe deejays should commit to an industry that has given them a career that was previously looked down upon.

Last Monday, deejay iJay and I rolled up to Black Diamond in Westland as he flossed his brand new convertible BMW Z4.

Here, I met up with top video director Thome of Boomba who has been away in Dubai for studies.

Thome who recently jetted back in the country is currently producing an entertainment, satirical show that pranks local personalities. On Tuesday evening, I stopped by Klub House for the weekly jazz night.

It’s evident that summer bunnies are in town. They are easily noticeable by their dress code and big spending ways.

As I mingled with the boys about town, I bumped into the celebrity couple of Debra Sanaipei and Mike Okwiri.

The couple that called off their wedding last year have hardly been spotted together. We had a quick chat at the parking lot after which Okwiri went to hang out briefly with a couple of friends. On Saturday afternoon, I linked up with Robertson Njogu from Barclays Bank at the Barclays Bank Members Club at Ruaraka for the old boys of rugby.

As the old-timers enjoyed their favourite sport, I caught up with businessman Stephen Chorio and ‘Mafisi Club’ members Luda, Jemo and Denno over some whisky.

Later that evening, we got a call from DALC’s CEO, Dr Humphry Obura. The professor, who is also the African president for the council of the gifted and talented, revealed his intent to vie for the top seat.

“I’m considering joining the race for 2017. I have what it takes to steer this country forward evidently by the business empire I have built from scratch. With my experience and credentials, I will soon announce my bid for the top seat,” he said.

Asked what stirred his motive, the prof informed me that a lot of his close friends had urged him to vie because of his management skills.

“I will run as an independent candidate as a lot of these parties are driven by ethnic agenda. I’m not tribal and wouldn’t want to be associated with such unions,” he added.

Later in the evening, we headed to club 1824 along Lang’ata Road together with Martino Kiarie, MC Jose and we were later joined by flamboyant politician Dan Rogena.

Rogena had just returned to Nairobi from Nyamira where he had joined other western leaders in hosting the president and his deputy. Sonu leader Babu Owino also made a brief appearance and confirmed that he will make a stab at the Westlands parliamentary seat in 2017.
