Harambee Stars know just what is expected of them when they play Ethiopia in a return match of the Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) at Nyayo Stadium today from 4pm.

The national team needs to overturn a 2-0 loss and they will be good to go. Harambee Stars must score three goals to make it to the next round of the competition.

After Kenya went down in that first leg match, there was hue and cry among local fans, who felt the team should have done better.

But Harambee Stars coach Bobby Williamson has expressed confidence in the team and insists they can overturn the result against Ethiopia.

Williamson should know better. He was in an almost similar situation some months back when the national under-23 team needed to overturn a 3-0 goal deficit against Botswana in an Africa Youth match.

Then young lads defeated their opponents 4-1, but failed to proceed to the next round after an away goal rule locked them out.

“It is going to be a difficult match considering that we need to score three goals. It would have been easier if we had scored one goal away. We would be chasing just a single goal. The penalty we lost has put us in a difficult situation,” he said.

Williamson was referring to a second half penalty thrown away by Tusker midfielder Kevin Kimani.

The Scott is particularly encouraged by the fact that his key players are scoring goals and this will come in handy against their opponents.

“I am impressed with the form of Michael Olunga and Jese Were who have been scoring goals in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL).”

Williamson has also called out on fans to cheer the team, saying it worked for their opponents in the first leg a week ago.

“We are very proud of our fans who have shown a lot of passion in the past and we plead with them to come and cheer us.

“We believe their presence will make a huge difference in the match.”
