Uhuru's approach on Mumias wrong

The decision by President Uhuru Kenyatta to publicly present a symbolic Sh1 billion bailout cheque to Mumias Sugar does not make any sense.

There are much cheaper and cost effective ways the cheque could have been delivered.

The President should have given the cheque to Western politicians who visited him at State House last week, if gaining political mileage and dangling the political carrot was at play.

But given the issue of Mumias Sugar Company is a purely business process, the cheque ideally should have either been banked in the normal way or National Treasury CS should have advised Mumias managers to pick it from his office and the cheque presentation ceremony witnessed by the president and his deputy.

Mr President, please avoid wasteful activities that will not bring food to so many hungry Kenyans who cannot make ends meet.
