Five people were Friday morning killed in an accident involving a salon car and a trailer at Isinya along the Nairobi-Namanga highway.

The incident happened at about 2 am after the driver of the salon car rammed onto a lorry that was ahead. Both vehicles were travelling in the same direction.

Police say driver error is the cause of the accident. Police were called to the scene long after the incident had happened.

The driver of the salon car was trying to overtake the lorry and realised there was another vehicle coming from the opposite direction and when he swerved back to his lane, he rammed onto a lorry that was ahead of him trapping all those who were on board.

Traffic commandant Charlton Muriithi said the five occupants who were onboard including two women died on the spot.

“Preliminary findings show the driver misjudged as he overtook a lorry and crashed onto it while avoiding a head on collision. They all died on the spot,” said Muriithi.

A witness says the deceased were at a bar in Isinya area until late before they left.

“They were in the bar with the car that I saw at the site parked outside. It is unfortunate they all died in the accident,” said a witness.

Police say they are investigating the incident.
