Locals threaten to close road as insecurity grows

Residents of Mogon area have threatened to close Mogon-Nakuru West road following rampant insecurity that has left many dead and several others injured.

Angry residents said they will close the busy road till a new police post is established so officers can patrol the area.

The nearest police station is five kilometres away in Kaptembwa and residents claim officers attached to it have not been patrolling the area.

Their threats come after a middle-aged boda boda rider was killed and dumped at Technology Farm and his motorcycle stolen by criminals on Saturday night.

The deceased has not been identified by locals and police officers.

Lives claimed

According to residents, more than 21 people have been killed and dumped at the farm with others left nursing serious injuries.

Clement Kitoleli, a resident, said despite insecurity incidences increasing over the past years, no suspect has been arrested.

“There is no need having a road that is a threat to lives and a dumpsite to criminal victims. It is unfortunate that every two weeks, at least someone is attacked along the road,” said Kitoleli.

Enock Tanui, boda boda association chairman said more than 10 motorcycles have been stolen from the operators with riders left with injuries.

Elijah Chesire, chairman of Mogon Nyumba Kumi initiative said despite the issue being in public domain, the road has remained unsafe day and night and nothing has been done by authority.

Chesire said victims have also been found dead in River Ndarugo after they were reported missing.

Mogon location Assistant Chief Josia Rono said the Government should establish a camp that will enable frequent patrols, leading to the arrest of suspected criminals.
