Vietnamese man arrested with rhino horns and lion teeth worth Sh12m in Nairobi

A Vietnamese national was Friday night arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Nairobi with rhino horns and lion teeth valued at Sh12 million.

Vuanh Tuan, 47 was on transit from Maputo in Mozambique to Hanoi when his luggage was found with the products.

Police say the luggage had seven pieces of rhino horns, rhino tails and lion teeth weighing 12 kilograms.

Airport head of CID boss Judy Jebet said the man was looking suspicious when he landed at JKIA at about 11pm aboard a KQ flight.

"When the luggage was searched the products were found wrapped in nylon papers. He will be charged in court on Monday," said Ms. Jebet.

The arrest is the latest in a series targeting foreigners using the airport as a transit point for trafficking of banned wildlife products.

Most of those found with banned wildlife products are usually headed for China and other Far East countries.
