Get National Youth Service men out of Mukuru slum

For four days now, the National Youth Service team in Mukuru kwa Njenga slum has been loitering around with nothing much to do.

I don't know whether they have no more work to do since Tuesday last week when I started to note a certain unbecoming behaviour among the 'spade boys'.

They are no longer collecting rubbish. They are no longer ensuring the filthy waters flow. They are currently lazing around the slum with nothing much to do other than chatting as they wait for the day to end.

I have noted with much concern that most of these young men are preying on people's wives. They wait till husbands are out for work then they invade.

I have seen them hide from their supervisors' eyes only to surface 'after a job well done'. If the work is over, let them be redeployed to other places where their effort is most needed.
